Government IT Initiatives

SERVING THE GOVERNMENT IT COMMUNITY

The mission of ACT-IAC is to serve the government IT community by providing an objective and trusted forum for government and industry collaboration.  There are a number of significant issues on which ACT-IAC is now involved.  Three of these issues are described below.

2009 Federal Government IT Strategic Agenda

Each year the American Council for Technology (ACT) prepares a strategic agenda of high priority government IT issues.  This agenda is used to guide the activities of ACT and its Industry Advisory Council (IAC) to ensure that this unique partnership is addressing the government’s issues.   The scope of the strategic agenda of ACT-IAC includes the use of IT to meet business and mission goals by the CIOs, CFOs, CAOs, CHCOs, and mission area leads within government, primarily federal but increasingly at the state and local level as well.

Recognizing that the country is going through unprecedented change, of the 2009 agenda is based upon the priorities established by the Federal government’s CIO and additional issues – continuing and new – that will benefit from public-private collaboration.   This year’s agenda is being made available for public review and comment.  We welcome your comments on the agenda issues and on potential initatives to implement the agenda’s priorities.

Take a look at the strategic agenda and share your comments and suggestions with the rest of the community.

Cloud Computing

One of the Administration’s major priorities is to encourage greater use of cloud computing by government departments and agencies.  To assist the Administration in identifying the opportunities and challenges associated with cloud computing, ACT has established a collaborative site for members of the government IT community to participate in this initiative.   We welcome your comments and suggestions.

ACT-IAC has also established a Cloud Computing Working Group.  For information on this activity and how to get involved, contact John Shaw at jshaw@actgov.org or 703-208-4800, ext. 222.

Proposed Government Directive on Open Government

President Obama has made transparency, participation and collaboration key themes of his Administration.  To implement these objectives, the office of the Federal Chief Technology Officer is developing an Open Government Directive.  To learn more about this initiative and to participate, go to the White House web site.

With thirty years of experience in promoting effective collaboration, ACT-IAC has provided comments to the Administration on the issue of collaboration.   For more information on these activities and other ACT-IAC initiatives, contact Sarah Lindenau at slindenau@actgov.org or 703-208-4800, ext. 207.
