Welcome to the new ACT-IAC website –
Over the past couple of years we have probably received more comments from ACT and IAC members about our web site than any other issue. Everyone noted that there was a great deal of valuable information on the site -- but it was challenging to find. We agree. We also recognize that recent technological developments such as Web 2.0 are opening new opportunities for collaboration. Unfortunately, our web site was not designed to take advantage of those technologies. All of that has now changed.
Last year we embarked upon a major acquisition to replace our entire IT infrastructure. The first step was implementation of a new association management system to enhance our major functions – membership management, event registration, committee management, accounting, etc. The first part of that system was implemented on January 1 and the final major applications will be completed shortly.
Late last year we began the process of designing a new web site. Our objectives were to develop a user-friendly site that clearly described the unique structure and value of ACT-IAC, provided easy access to information relevant to the government IT community and to introduce new collaborative technologies to support the activities of ACT and IAC.
After an extensive review we decided to build our new web site on a SharePoint platform. We are extremely grateful to the Microsoft Corporation for donating the software. We also need to acknowledge the hundreds of hours that our members invested in planning, designing, and reviewing this web site. We would not have been able to make this happen without their support and participation. This involvement was also critical to make sure that the product is responsive to and supports the many activities on the ACT and IAC agenda.
The unveiling of our new web site is only the first step. This is a work in progress and we look forward to making additional improvements and additions to the web site in the weeks ahead. Our goal is to serve ACT-IAC members and the entire government IT community. You can still participate in this process. Visit the new web site. Kick the tires. Let us know where it works and where it doesn’t.
We invite your comments, suggestions and thoughts. I invite you to send those to me at kallen@actgov.org. I can assure you that we will consider every comment. I look forward to hearing from you.
