ACT Governance and structure

The American Council for Technology (ACT) is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization.   ACT is governed by a Board of Directors composed of government executives with an interest and expertise in the management of information technology resources.   The ACT Board is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the organization and ensuring that ACT is addressing issues of interest to government.  Individuals serving on the ACT Board of Directors do so in their personal capacity and are not representatives of their employing organizations.

Membership in ACT is free to any full-time government employee.

ACT was originally established as a federation of government information processing councils.   Current councils include:

Association for Federal Information Resources Management (AFFIRM), Washington, DC

National High Performance Computing and Communications Council (NHPCC)

National Capital Chapter- Association of Information and Imaging Management (NCC-AIIM), Washington, DC

Systems and Software Consortium, Washington, DC

In 1989 ACT established the Industry Advisory Council (IAC) to obtain advice from the private sector IT industry. In 1997 ACT established the Intergovernmental Advisory Board (IAB) to provide intergovernmental input and advice to ACT.  The General Services Administration currently supports the IAB.  Both councils report to the ACT Board of Directors.

The ACT Board establishes committees and working groups as necessary to address issues of interest to the government IT community.

ACT serves the national government IT community and has active groups in Denver, CO and San Diego, CA.  ACT-IAC works closely with other organizations in the government IT community, such as the National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO).
