Welcome Message from the ACT President

Dear Fellow Government Employee:

I have had the privilege of working for the Federal government for the past 22 years.  During this time I have learned two things.  The first is that we in government bear a significant responsibility to act in the best interests of our citizens and the nation.  The second is that we cannot do it alone.  The challenges and the opportunities are far too complex.  We need to collaborate with each other – and with those outside government – to find and implement the best strategies and solutions.  That is why I have been an active member of ACT-IAC during the past ten years.

I consider it an honor to have been elected as the ACT President. The purpose of this note is to share with you some of my thoughts about where we are going and to ask your help.  Over the course of the next year, Jim Beaupre, the IAC Chair, and I are emphasizing the theme of collaboration. We are aligning initiatives and are particularly focused on training and education, strategic initiatives, leadership development, and spreading the good work of the ACT-IAC Shared Interest Groups.  Given the increasing pace of change in technology and need to provide for mobility, flexibility and agility in our environments combined with the resource shortages we face, it is more critical than ever that we work across government and with industry to develop and implement effective solutions. ACT-IAC is the community that enables us to do just that. Over the past year, ACT-IAC has successfully supported and tackled many important projects such as VA's VISTA program, OFPP's Mythbusters campaign, and most recently the project focused on Implementing a Sustainment Strategy for Federal Financial Management. These programs play a vital role in the improved delivery of services to our citizens.

Whether it’s working on a special project, participating in a Shared Interest Group, or speaking at one of our programs or events, I hope you will consider actively engaging in our community and sharing your knowledge and expertise. If you have ideas about how ACT-IAC can increase its value to the government IT community, I’d love to hear from you.  I look forward to getting to know you and working closely with you over the next year.
