ESnet4 is a high-speed nationwide network designed and built to support and advance U.S. scientific capabilities and competitiveness by linking scientists at national laboratories and universities across the country. Consisting of multiple 10 Gb/s circuits, ESnet4 is able to reliably move the massive datasets resulting from large-scale scientific experiments. Through a combination of innovative uses of existing technologies and the development and application of homegrown networking protocols, estimates are that ESnet4 will generate cost savings of more than $20M between FY2007-2013 over scaling the previous generation network and availability of the network increased from 99.989% in 2006 to 99.997% in 2008.

The Electronic Information Exchange (EIE) provides secure electronic transmission of licensing and regulatory documents necessary for conducting business with those we regulate and the public. EIE fully enables the E-Filing Rule, which requires electronic submissions of documents in all agency hearings and proceedings. EIE was extended to other agency activities requiring secure submission of information, such as receiving information to conduct criminal history checks and reports detailing the fitness for duty of nuclear plant personnel.
