Janice K. Mendenhall Spirit of Leadership Award 

The Janice K. Mendenhall Spirit of Leadership Award is the highest tribute ACT-IAC can bestow upon a member of the IT community. It originated in 2001 in memory of Janice Mendenhall, a life-long government civil servant and exceptional leader known for her focus on mentoring and strengthening government and industry relations.  Janice Mendenhall was known as a leader who focused her attention on mentoring and teaching other up-and-coming professionals. She worked relentlessly to strengthen relationships between government and industry personnel. Through her involvement, Janice left behind a legacy of individuals who have grown professionally and personally. ACT and IAC continue to pay a tribute to Janice by recognizing an outstanding individual who embodies like qualities and professional aspirations as Janice.

The Janice K. Mendenhall Spirit of Leadership Award singles out a professional from either the public or private sector who has promoted and supported ACT-IAC's mission of serving the government IT community to improve government.  Nominations are solicited from the government IT community at large.  The award criteria include:


* Government or Industry IT Professional who has made substantial contributions to the IT community over a significant period of time
* Serves as a Mentor via official and non-official programs
* Serves as a Coach to fellow teammates and associates
* Strengthens relationships between government and industry
* Embodies a high sense of integrity
* Strong commitment to the Government IT Community
* Melding understanding of the human side of business with all aspects of business
* Understands the importance of networking, business relationships and allegiances
* Embodies a strong sense of professional vitality
* Is flexible and actively embraces change
* Serves as a highly ethical professional
* Actively participates in activities that supports personal and professional development of themselves and others
* Embodies a selfless attitude in all matters
* Ability to recognize, identify and foster growth in a person who has special talents and gifts.
