Course Description:

Effective communication skills are critical for achieving a high level of success in the workplace. Communicating Up, Down, and Across the Organization is a half-day course for leaders and those in an organization that want to develop the communication skills that encourage dialogue throughout the organization and among different departments and levels.

 

 

What You Will Learn:

Course participants will be able to:

1.  Describe the communication process and elements that impact effective communication

2.  Describe the verbal and nonverbal aspects of communication

3.  Identify various communication styles and identify you own personal style

4.  Assess the impact of generational differences in communication style preferences

5.  Use five methods for more effective communication

6.  Determine the appropriate usage of several communication tools, such as face-to-face communication, email, telephone, and voicemail.

 

 

Why You Should Attend:

Through discussion and group activities, participants will learn the various communication styles and tools used in the workplace. Participants will be led through several workplace examples, working in teams to examine the impact of various communication styles and methods for communication. From this course, you will be able to craft messages that address listeners’ needs, wants, and priorities; communicate your intention clearly; and adapt messages to others’ communication styles.

 

 

Format:

The learning is facilitated by small group discussion and activities, large group discussion, and individual action plan development. Participants will be invited, encouraged, and expected to provide feedback, questions, and comments. Participants will also gain hands-on experience using worksheets which support the process they have been introduced to and will be provided the same material as a takeaway.

Instructor:

Amy Uranachek has over 10 years of experience in leading transformational change at the individual, team, and organizational level. Her work is grounded in theory as well as practical application of human dynamics change methodologies, with focus on resistance to change at the individual and team level. Ms. Uranachek also has extensive experience creating leadership development courses for all levels of leadership in organizations.  Presently she develops courses for various clients in the federal government, focusing on the key outcomes that will improve performance.   Her most recent successful change management initiative combined with instructional design was the creation of two major components of a system-wide performance management process developed for a large mid-Atlantic hospital system. This effort led to saving the organization over a million dollars annually as processes and procedures were streamlined, and employee satisfaction metrics increased.
