Networks & Telecommunications SIG

 About the Networks & Telecommunications SIG

Purpose
Originally formed in 1994, the Networks and Telecommunications SIG (IAC’s first SIG) provides a forum and clearing-house for on-going discussions, information sharing, and education for members and government professionals. The SIG collaborates with its Government Advisory Panel to identify the key issues and set priorities for action. The SIG then provides industry perspectives on issues of interest and importance to government professionals.

Current key issues include:
Interoperability
Information sharing
Communications architectures
Wireless technology
Worldwide seamless communication
Converged Internet Protocol based services ( x oIP)
IT v. telecommunications
Security and continuity of service

Mission Statement
The mission of the Networks and Telecommunications SIG is to:
Provide clarity, impartial feedback, and points for consideration on networks and telecom issues identified in collaboration with the Government Advisory Panel;
Provide insight that serves the collective interests of the government and industry;
Ensure that viewpoints represented include all aspects of the collective interests that are discussed.

Objectives
To provide opportunities for formal and informal interaction between and among SIG members and government IT professionals, executives, users, and other interested parties. The collaboration should provide participants the opportunity to understand, define, and shape the issues facing SIG members and constituents.

Membership
The Networks and Telecommunications SIG is open to all IAC members who are interested in our subject matter and are looking for a place to network and become involved.

Activities
The Networks and Telecommunications SIG will hold periodic meetings and workshops with government IT professionals and executives. The SIG will conduct other activities as determined by the membership in support of its objectives and mission, including supporting General Membership Meetings and the annual IAC Executive Leadership Conference. All activities undertaken will be consistent with the charter of the IAC.
